The table below gives you an idea of how Hotspot Shield might work with your NBN connection. Bottom line: Hotspot Shield is okay for streaming-I certainly use it a lot for HBO Max-but there are much better streaming VPNs out there. Netflix US and BBC iPlayer in the UK are two easier wins for competent streaming VPNs, but even they had sluggish libraries and moderate buffering speeds (with more location switching required). Consistently, the specialist streaming servers didn’t work as well as automatic options or manually selected locations, which is concerning for everyday users. Even those services with fast buffering speeds are the result of my being forced to switch locations. Hotspot Shield was all over the place for streaming during my latest tests. Hotspot Shield doesn’t really have a lot of advanced features for VPN veterans, though, outside of split tunnelling.ĭespite a comparatively small server network (1,800+ servers), Hotspot Shield has a healthy 112 global locations to connect to, with Oceania, Asia and Europe having the most server options. Speaking of automation, the Windows version of Hotspot Shield has an internet kill switch, automatic connection for public WiFi, and IP leak prevention enabled by default. Admittedly, the automated approach makes life easier for newcomers, and it’s nice to see specialist servers for streaming and gaming. Shifting locations is very straightforward, even if I do wish Hotspot Shield had the option to manually select a server or, at least, a button to switch to a new one. Both apps also track how much data you’ve used in the last 24 hours, and there’s an inbuilt internet speed test. For instance, Hotspot Shield on Windows and Android displays the IP address of your server, the load percentage, latency and your connection uptime. Once connected, disconnection is a single one-second tap away, and there’s also some insightful server information. Tap the big power button to automatically connect to the last server you used, which seems to be remembered across devices. Whether I’m using Hotspot Shield on Windows 11, a Google Pixel 7 Pro or on my Nvidia Shield TV Pro, it’s intuitive and informative. As long as you buy Dashlane Premium or Dashlane Family & Friends, you also get a bundled Hotspot Shield VPN subscription alongside an excellent password manager.ĭuring my years with Hotspot Shield, I’ve come to appreciate how easy it is to use, even if it’s comparatively slow to connect and switch servers (around eight seconds). In a rare move, Hotspot Shield also has a family subscription for up to 25 devices, which has great per-device value, especially if you can split the costs.īy far the best way to get Hotspot Shield, though, is as part of a Dashlane password manager subscription. There’s also a seven-day trial when you sign up, but don’t forget to set a calendar reminder if you intend on switching VPNs. Hotspot Shield offers a decent free VPN and a generous 45-day money-back guarantee. There are some saving graces when it comes to pricing, though. Even then, the three-year subscription is inexplicably hidden and requires some illogical clicking. It’s great that it’s offered in Australian dollars, but it’s nowhere near the cheapest option for monthly, annual and multi-year pricing of all the VPNs I’ve reviewed. No matter which way you cut it, the regular version of Hotspot Shield is very expensive.

The van is a staple: crime doesn't happen if you don't chuck bags into a van. One saw us kill a gang leader, then run back to the van. Get into a warehouse, stuff jewels into bags, then get back to the van. For instance, a standout mission involved getting onto a cruise ship, then stuffing cocaine dotted around the ship into bags, and making off with the booty unscathed. Crime here isn't so much a puzzle to be solved through elaborate means, but more of a multi-step process pulled from a bucket of activities, which are then popped together in different combinations a Kray Twins Lego set, if you will. The game, or the game mode I played, seemed more akin to, say, Payday's routine heisting. It's a bit like Rainbow Six: Extraction in that regard.Ĭrime Boss isn't an immersive sim. If all of your characters run out of lives, then they'll be replaced by a range of basic folks until the others recover between missions. I opted for the brick, because it emanated strong immersive sim energy. They all have a set number of lives, so if they die multiple times they'll be out of action for a while, and each comes equipped with a primary and secondary weapon, as well as a slot for a grenade or a brick or a flashbang to prevent death from happening. Most look like they've modeled themselves on the 3rd Street Saints. They have excellent names that all sound like they belong to Jason Statham characters, like Bricks and Yakult and Shelf (okay, I made up Yakult and Shelf, but you get it)". When you party up with mates, you get to select a character first. I'm into a mode that lets you let rip with your pals without getting tangled up in everything else. All you unlock here are further "mini-campaigns" and teammates for Crime Time. You're not getting much story here, which is fine! The point of the mode seems to be more in chucking some cocaine into a van with your mates, all without the grind that comes with the other two modes. You can play this with up to three other players, or solo with bots if you'd prefer, and they're more like short heist missions stitched together by very brief snippets of Madsen's 90s face pushing out crime words. Urban Legends is made up of what they call "mini-campaigns", but that's maybe a touch generous. In Baker's Battle, you can pick and choose the territories you want to fight over. Crime Time, seemingly, will help you outrun the lad. But as you earn Boss Levels and money from previous runs, you'll unlock new characters and perks that make fleeing from Norris a bit easier. Losses are at the hands of Chuck Norris, a policeman who picks up on the "evidence you leave" between each mission (whatever this means), and will apprehend you without much trouble early on. Playthroughs are your attempts to become the kingpin of Rockay City by doing varying difficulties of crime and taking over turf in the process. Baker's Battle is the bulk of the game and singleplayer only, while Crime Time is either a singleplayer or co-op blast through missions that'll earn you money to spend in Baker's Battle, I think? Bear with me here, as I am working from snippets of B-Roll, some printed out slides, and an eight-minute video presentation.įrom my understanding, Baker's Battle is structured similarly to a roguelike, where you dip into multiple playthroughs, lose, get stronger, and eventually win. I played roughly two hours of Urban Legends – the least important of the bunch, it turns out. The game has three modes: Baker's Battle, Crime Time, and Urban Legends. Unless the other two modes wrap up its action in more interesting ways, I'm unsure whether I can see Crime Boss racking up the cash when it releases next month. Still, what I did play was simplistic fun that valued chaos over stealth, with middling results. The other two - the bulk of the game - weren't playable. What's happened here is: I've come away with thoughts, but they're thoughts on one of three modes that's the least useful one to have thoughts on. I spent some time with Crime Boss: Rockay City, the upcoming Payday-esque heist FPS that sees you tackle crime and murder in either singleplayer or co-op, all with nostalgia hits from characters played by Michael Madsen and Vanilla Ice. GRID's artwork is perfect for an office decoration or as a gift for an Apple fan. You can see the Face ID components laid out next to other iPhone X parts like the dual-lens camera, Taptic Engine, and A11 Bionic chip.Įvery GRID Studio piece includes all of the original parts of the device, but the company does not use real batteries to prevent any issues with the battery expanding or exploding with age. The $269 GRID iPhone X is interesting because the iPhone X was Apple's first iPhone with a notch and the Face ID facial recognition system. In addition to the original iPhone, there are also GRID pieces for everything up to the iPhone X, along with A-series chips like the A5X, the Apple Watch, the Magic Mouse, and more. If you have a favorite classic iPhone, there's a good chance that GRID has taken it apart. With the $140 GRID iPhone 4S, for example, there's a clear look at the classic squared-off edges that Apple recently brought back for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, along with the circular volume buttons and the A5 chipset. The shell of the iPhone is displayed next to individual components that include the power button, headphone socket, speaker, logic board, circuit board, ear piece, and other components.Įach piece of GRID art highlights what was important about the featured iPhone. Measuring in at 13x13x8, the GRID 1 features a torn apart iPhone with all of the internal components separated out and labeled so you can see everything that made the original iPhone so special at a glance. Priced at $400, the GRID 1 is often sold out, but GRID Studio has a new series of GRID 1 pieces coming later in March. The GRID 1, for example, is one of GRID Studio's most popular pieces because it features an original iPhone, perhaps the most important device in Apple's history. Each device is disassembled, and the components are artfully displayed behind a glass frame that can be hung on the wall of any Apple fan.īecause GRID Studio works with classic Apple devices, there won't be any deconstructed Mac Studio art pieces for sale for some time, but there are plenty of other offerings on the GRID Studio website, with prices starting at around $40 and going up depending on complexity. GRID Studio is known for creating art from vintage Apple devices that are an important part of Apple's history. For example, the General pane has different settings now some of the settings it used to have, such as Appearance, are now its own separate setting pane, while others are now in a different or new setting. To celebrate the upcoming launch of the new Mac Studio from Apple, we've teamed up with GRID Studio to offer MacRumors readers a chance to win a new M1 Max Mac Studio or one of GRID Studio's deconstructed Apple device art pieces. The new look and feel is easy to adjust to, but what will throw some users off is that Apple also moved many settings around from where they used to be located. The overall look is a lot cleaner, making settings and controls easier to find. They’re similar to what was used before, but Apple did some fine-tuning to make the controls more intuitive and easy to use. This new layout makes it more efficient to switch between settings.Īpple also made changes to the controls within each setting. In the new UI, the setting that you click on opens in the main part of the window. In the old UI, you clicked on an icon and the window would open to the setting. The icon grid is gone, replaced by a list in the left column. Monterey’s System Preferences main window (left) is replaced by System Settings in Ventura (right). Teatro resides in the historic building most recently occupied by Criollo Latin Kitchen, which closed for pandemic-related reasons in 2021. And with the opening of Teatro - pronounced tay-AH-tro - a brand-new Italian restaurant in the heart of downtown, it just got a little better. Roll your eyes if you must, but I’m telling you, for a mountain town overrun with college kids and a population hovering just under 80,000, Flagstaff rocks, culinarily speaking. In Munich for instance, I’ve found that #SimplyMunich and #MeinMünchen are great hashtags to discover new interesting places. Often accounts will add all their hashtags in the comments as well, so be sure to snoop around and discover niche hashtags to flip through, and potentially find new accounts to follow as well. The best way to find these hashtags is to see what hashtags your favourite creators are already using! The ‘Infinite Spiral Staircase theory’ or ISST (Hardy, 2015) hypothesizes at the origin of the universe (before Planck time, i.e. In this framework, death is just the severing of links to the brain-body and the Self, at death, becomes fully independent from the body and enjoy (in the HD layer) the same intelligent, creative, and individualized capacities as when embodied, yet with greater psi capacities. It is because the Self and the mind belong to the syg-HD that they instantiate psi capacities, high meditation states, and some independence from spacetime. In a consciousness-HD (syg-HD) framework, consciousness and our mind-the syg-field- operate mostly via the HD, and only a small part of our syg-field is branching into the brain's neuronal networks. The HD preexists and survives to these matter regions in the BH-WH double spiral, and pervades them during the life of a universe. At the scale of the pluriverse, the spacetime regions of specific universe-bubbles are constantly birthed and then die. Thus ISST reframes the mind-body split in a complex dynamical network systems' framework, as a consciousness HD existing at a sub-quantum scale in all matter systems (thus setting a type of panpsychism), and also as a bulk in its own CSR-HD region. The syg-HD operates clearly beyond-spacetime and is a beyond-matter layer (thus in accord with dualism) yet, given that consciousness-as-process is steered by the sub-quantum sygon particles, the syg-HD is definitely a blend of energy and mind (as in monism/materialism). Positing a consciousness-HD layer in the universe leads to envision a new paradigmatic stand in philosophy as well as in physics. The ensemble of all syg-fields form the cosmic CSR hyperdimension of consciousness, as a gigantic hologram, self-conscious and evolving. As human beings, our mind or consciousness is our global syg-field, organized in dynamical networks and steered by syg-energy-the sygons (Hardy 1998, 2001, 2003). ISST builds on the Semantic Fields Theory (SFT) in modeling a semantic layer of organization in all systems-their syg-fields (semantic fields) ranging from proto-consciousness to self-consciousness. Within the Terminal Black Hole of a parent universe, all matter-systems are translated into pure CSR information or syg-fields steered by the sub-quantum sygons and through the White Hole at the origin, these syg-fields are translated back from virtual sygons into post-Planck particles and matter systems, still retaining the sygons as a 5 th dimension at their core. This HD is in fact triune, a braid of hyperspace (Center, C), hypertime (Rhythm, R) and consciousness (Syg, S), topologically organized as a double phi-based golden spiral set on a double BlackHole-WhiteHole Kerr system. The Infinite-Spiral-Staircase Theory (ISST) posits a hyperdimension of consciousness populated by faster-than-light, high-energy, sub-Planckian sygons pervading the pluriverse. It is a Kaluza-Klein compact 5th dimension with a bulk pervading and encompassing our universe the virtual particles of tachyonic speed populating it, the sygons, instantiate the very meaning-driven dynamics of our minds and allow for instant connectivity at a distance and two-way influences between semantic fields or minds and bio- and matter- systems. The Infinite Spiral Staircase theory (ISST) postulates that this triune hyperdimension operates at a sub-quantum scale, at the origin of the universe before the very Planck scale that allows the existence of particles (matter), as well as space and time. The well substantiated ‘nonlocal’ dynamics of consciousness, experimentally evidenced, show mind processes constantly violating Newtonian-Einsteinian space and time constraints, and following instead complex systems dynamics based on connectivity and meaning. This paper argues that the only way to integrate the dimension of consciousness in a theory of the universe is by modeling a complex hyperdimension of consciousness (or ‘syg hyperdimension’) consisting in complex semantic fields (operating at all levels, from the cosmic to the biosystems levels), and entwined with a hyperspace and hypertime. It is a fact that only by positing hyperdimensions can actual physics succeeds in reaching a near-unification of the four forces by blending the frameworks of Relativity Theory and Quantum Mechanics (such as in Witten’s 11-dimensional M-Theory). General Systems Theory is a substantial global systemic framework that, blended with hyperdimensional physics, can ground such modeling. The existence of consciousness in the universe as a consequent dimension of reality and a force able to shape material reality has to be integrated in cosmological physics theories whose stated aim is to describe the whole universe.
